Dan & Abby's Nostalgic Engagement | Engagement Photographer, Adams, NY

Thursday, May 17, 2012

Abby contacted me a few months ago about doing an engagement session for her and Dan. She said they wanted to do a 50s theme, but weren't sure about a location. I don't know the Adams area very well, so I told her to decide. At the last minute she picked the Depot Cafe in Adams, NY. Lets just say it turned out to be PERFECT!! I couldn't even believe a cute little place like this existed! I doubt it will be the last time I use it for a session. They had old wagon wheels and milk jugs out front which added to the nostalgia. Abby brought some old suitcases and an old hat box. I suggested the old coke bottles (unfortunately they couldn't find the glass ones). The rest was just Abby and Dan doing an awesome job with their styling, which as I said before, always adds A LOT to a shoot. We pulled this mini session off in a half hour and I am thrilled with the results! Enjoy!

Alycia & Payton | Family Photographer, Mexico, NY

I am soooo excited to show off this session of my gorgeous sister and my adorable niece, Payton. My sister is the owner and amazing hairstylist of Backwoods Beauty Salon in Richland, NY. I always feature her headbands, hair styles and makeup in a lot of my sessions, so you have probably heard about her. She also does my hair for free (what a perk!) so I told her I would give her a spot in the Mother's Day mini sessions I did this past weekend at Behling's Orchards in Mexico, NY.

Of course, with only one day of planning, my talented sister pulled together their outfits and made their AWESOME headbands, which I now want and NEED haha. Since she is family, and I usually edit family photos last, I made a point to finish these or else she would probably refuse to do my hair anymore. If you have ever seen me with my roots grown in, then you KNOW this is a bad bad thing and must never, ever happen.

On a side note - when you style yourself for a photoshoot... it comes out 100 times better! It makes the session unique, creative and totally your own! Not everyone has the same style, which is understandable, but I encourage everyone who books a session to try to come up with a theme that suits their family best, and to really go all out with hair, makeup, outfits, etc... These are memories that will be hung on your walls for years so it is totally worth it to put a little effort into it! Obviously you can see for yourself how amazing these colors worked with the location, and how different it would have been if they showed up in jeans and t-shirts. So just keep that in mind when getting ready for your photo sessions!

On another side note - my sister refused to spit her gum out. Please for the love of all that is holy, DO NOT CHEW GUM DURING A SESSION! I had to toss about 30 photos because she was chewing!! So my apologies for my mess of a sister and her gum showing in half of the photos haha.

Enough rambling... onto this amazing session!!
